Fiction – Thriller
Lila Bennett’s bad choices have finally caught up with her. And one of those decisions has split her life in two. Literally.
In one life, she’s taken hostage by someone who appears to be a stranger but knows too much. As she’s trapped in a concrete cell, her kidnapper forces her to face what she’s done or be killed. In an alternate life, she eludes her captor but is hunted by someone who is dismantling her happiness, exposing one secret at a time.
Lila’s decorated career as a criminal defense attorney, her marriage, and her life are on the line. She must make a list of those she’s wronged—both in and out of the courtroom—to determine who is out to get her before it’s too late. But even if she can pinpoint her assailant, will she survive? And if she does, which parts of her life are worth saving, and which parts must die? Because one thing’s for certain—life as Lila Bennett knew it is over.
Liz & Lisa wrote a great thriller that will surely keep you entertained and guessing! I’ve been highly anticipating this one since I first heard it was in the works. Partly because Liz and Lisa are two of the sweetest women in the world and are so kind to their readers!
First off, I think just about anyone will be able to relate to Lila Bennett. She’s gotten all too caught up in how the world defines success: do whatever you can to get ahead both in your career and financially. Unfortunately for Lila, she’s in way deeper than she probably ever imagined. While many of her actions seem despicable, she acquired some redemptive qualities throughout the story that helped me feel for her.
I absolutely enjoyed the split storylines of good Lila and bad Lila. It was super interesting to see how her life played out in the two different scenarios. I was completely surprised by the major twist in this one and did not come even close to guessing it!
I can’t wait to hear what you all think of this one! Preorder it now or get on the hold list at your library!
