Fiction – Thriller
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.
Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.
Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him….
The Silent Patient is a brand new debut thriller that will be hitting shelves February 5th! It is currently being talked about among the bookstagram community hugely and is likely to be a top thriller in 2019!
I had a hard time getting into this book to begin with, but I’ve seriously considered that it may have been my mood more than the book. I read about fifty pages in and then decided to take a break for a few weeks. When I picked it back up, I seriously burned through it so quickly. The story is fast-paced, the chapters are short, and the ending took me by surprise! All of these things put together make for a great thriller in my mind.
I thought I had a couple ideas of how this book was going to pan out, but it turns out I was completely wrong! The ending had a huge twist that I couldn’t have seen coming from a mile away. I’ll keep this review short and sweet with leaving it by saying that I think you should definitely check this one out! Preorder it, get on the wait list at the library, whatever it is you do for new releases! But I don’t think you’ll want to miss out on this once because everyone will be talking about it!
